an Evening Ride In this Diorama the focus is on the details of the models. Vinnie, an amateur outdoor mechanic, works on tuning a customer's scooter, while the owner looks on. It is based on an inexpensive die-cast toy scooter, which was stripped of paint, disassembled, and then rebuilt and detailed, especially the engine. The figures are my own sculptures, and some of the hand tools are commercial items. I also added lots of details from other scooter models I had, piled in the back corner, near the workbench. This diorama garnered a lot of "Wow" comments at a recent Art Show. Built July, 2017. Dimensions; 19"L X 12"D X 16"H Available for Purchase. ERIS, A Steampunk Airship This is a "flying diorama'! It is an Airship, run by Gnomes, designed and built in a "Steampunk" style. It was made from wood, brass, plastic, wire, string, muslin, and many other bits. It can be set on it's landing gear, or hung from a thin fishing line. I built it in 2019. Dimensions; 20"L X 13"D X 24"H Available for Purchase. \ The Courier This diorama was inspired by a sketch from Ian McCue, a concept artist. It depicts a future time and place , including levitating versions of vehicles. The model again started with a toy scooter, with a new jet engine and a custom-sculpted driver. 1/12 Scale. Built, 2016. Dimensions; 8"L X 7"D X 11"H Available for Purchase Procession to Llasa
"Hands"
Several years ago, when I began
studying figurative clay sculpture, I sculpted a series of life-size The "Franken-Hand" Automaton: I took my "Hands" sculpture series to the next level by including a "robotic" look, in a Victorian/Steampunk (brass and copper) style, and simulated human movement. Dimensions; 8" X 8" X 7"H First, I sculpted a life-size
hand in Ceramic Clay, in a relaxed pose, with
joints at the knuckles. The next step was to add brass joints, hinges, support bands, and guides for the cables which would operate this hand. Some of the metal pieces have a hammered texture, nuts and bolts, and other hardware, to make them look suitably "Steam-Punk-ish". Dimensions; 8"L X 8"D X 10"H Below is a video of the
Franken-Hand in action...
These two sculptures are from a series of wall hangings. They are made entirely of Terracotta Clay, even the small tools and details. They were colored with a variety of stains. Dimensions; 7"W X 12"H 6"W X 8"H |
