The Ogre Takes an Evening Ride

An old country Ogre urges his faithful Wild Boar to move along, as he takes his pet raven for a ride on the cart. This fantasy diorama is totally hand-made, from polymer clay, wood, brass, plastic, Tibetan lamb's wool, leather, paintbrush bristles, and an old washcloth. That makes it truly a multimedia piece. It is about 16" long, and 10" high. The boar was inspired by the movie "Beasts of The Southern Wild" (great flick). The pet raven was made from polymer clay, with paper feathers. The base has real dirt and gravel.
Dimensions; 17"L X 7"D X 12"H          Created 2017.

The Shaman

This Diorama depicts a Shaman, a sacred figure in many cultures, including both Gnome and Human traditions. He wanders the forest, "seeing" the needs of others, and finding guidance for them. He carries with him a staff which he uprooted. The roots of the staff were still holding the sacred gemstone. He also holds a stone engraved with sacred Celtic Runes.

The Shaman is 12" tall (seated), and was sculpted from epoxy putty and polymer clay. His head rotates
to provid different posesHe is sitting on a piece of natural driftwood, found on a local beach.
Note: These photos were taken on my workbench, without a suitable backdrop. Sorry.

The Courier

This diorama was inspired by a sketch from Ian McCue, a concept artist. It depicts a future time
and place , including levitating versions of vehicles. The model started with a toy scooter,
I added detail, a new jet engine, and a custom-sculpted driver.  1/12 Scale.
Dimensions; 8"L X 7"D X 11"H

Vespa Repair Shop

In this diorama, the focus is Vinnie, the mechanic, as he works to repair a customer's Vespa Scooter.

The scooter is base on a commercial die-cast model, which I disassembled and stripped of paint.
It was then rebuilt with lots of extra detail, especially on the engine. The figure "Vinnie" is my
own sculpture, and some of the tools and parts are commercial items.
Dimensions are 11.5" long X 11.5" deep X 11.5" tall.      Created 2024

Traditional Gnomes

I created these Gnomes as a tribute to Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvliet, authors and illustrators
of the famous "Book of Gnomes" (1977).
These Gnomes are holding a chipping hammer,
ready to mine for precious gems.
I sculpted the masters in Polymer Clay. Then I made molds, cast them in Resin, and painted
 each one. They stand
on a slab cut from a Maine Maple sapling, and are about 4" tall
to the top of their conical hats,        Created, 2023

   Andiamo!  (Come along, now)

In this Diorama, a young woman is trying to coax a donkey along by offering a carrot. The donkey is tired, carrying sticks, potatoes, lemons and other goods to market. For a long time, I've wanted to sculpt a donkey in 1/12 scale. I also sculpted the woman to match, and set them on a simple base.

Created 2019.

Procession to Llasa

A group of seven Tibetan Buddhists take part in a procession, walking to the holy city of Llasa.
Periodically, they assume prayerful poses, saluting the sky, the heart, the earth, and finally the
Dali Lama. As they walk, they work to attain a higher level of spirituality, indicated by their color
changing from dark to light.

The sculpture is made up of hi-fired clay figures, accented with variations of iron oxide, and mounted on a rough wood slab, with stones.      43"L X 10"D X 17"H.       created  2010

"Hands"

Several years ago, when I began studying figurative clay sculpture, I sculpted a series of life-size
hands using terracotta clay, using my own hand as the subject. The hands with the RED dots are sold.
